Close 5 Years Mary-Margaret Gossen Mary-Margaret has been a long-standing member at Fortitude Strength & Conditioning. She started in 2013 to “try something different”. Five years later, she continues to use CrossFit as part of her physical fitness routine, and credits the gym with expanding her network of friends and options for social events in Austin. Close 2.5 Years Alonzo ‘Al’ Reyes Al is the oldest member of the CrossFit Strive community at 64 years young. If you ask Al, he’ll tell you that CrossFit is keeping him young (both in health and at heart). Al enjoys participating in the 5:30am class most weekdays and credits CrossFit with reducing his dependency on prescribed medicines and generally improving his mobility and longevity in everyday life. Recently, Al joined our Healthy Habits program and has lost over 20 lbs! Al is eager to welcome new-comers into class and shares his experience scaling movements while keeping workouts challenging. Close 1 Year Mario Villa “I came to Fortitude in August 2017 after an unexpected change and found so much more than I expected: 1) a distinct ambiance of positivity and clear understanding of what fitness should be 2) a diverse community of athletes from all walks of life who support you both in and out of the gym and support the Austin community as a whole 3) excellent programming and coaching that meets me where I am in skill and strength but provides growth and challenge safely. Since joining, I have busted through plateaus, become more confident in myself mentally and physically, made a great group of friends that I enjoy being around who have become like a family, and I have adopted a more healthy lifestyle and met metabolic goals from my doctor. Check it out! You won’t regret it! “ Close 1.5 years Rudy Escobedo Rudy, like many athletes who try CrossFit for the first time, told us he was hesitant to come alone to try a class. Because he wasn’t familiar with the movements and unsure how his fitness compared to others in the class, he was intimidated to put himself out there. So, Rudy did what any good friend would do, he recruited a bunch of family to come with him. Rudy and his friends joined as a shared new year’s resolution, and looking back, Rudy says he’s so glad he took the leap. “Once I got here, I realized everyone was super friendly and the coaches want you to enjoy each workout. I never felt out of place; the community welcomed me and now I come 5x a week!” Close 1.5 Years Robert Ramirez Robert was introduced to CrossFit by his wife Debbie. As Robert will tell you, his hesitation to try a class was driven mostly by the fear of what he couldn’t do. “Running a quarter mile was a struggle in the beginning”, he offers. But soon, Robert started seeing small wins and noticed that the challenge of the movements and the classes kept him accountable. After losing over 100lbs, he has reset his goals to focus on strength and endurance. Come meet our community and learn more about what has motivated Robert to come regularly! Close 1 Year Joey Blanco Joey re-joined Fortitude in July of 2017 with a renewed commitment to his health and fitness goals. Unlike previous false starts, Joey was upfront with the coaches about his limitations and his past injuries. This allowed our staff to help him work on his deficiencies while pushing him in areas he really enjoyed and excelled at. By the end of 2017, the Fortitude community had publicly recognized Joey’s commitment to the process and he had his sights set on even bigger goals. This year, Joey has not only lost weight, but he’s continued to hit new PRs and participated in his first CrossFit competition in June of 2018! Close 1.5 Year Kristin Johnson Kristin wears a lot of hats including accountant, mom, and now CrossFitter. After trying a few bootcamps without seeing results, she joined CrossFit Strive Bastrop in January of 2017 with the goal of getting in shape so that she could take her daughter on a beach trip without feeling self-conscious. Not only did she gets the results she was looking for to fully enjoy her family vacation, but she learned she that she enjoys CrossFit and how the community pushes her to be a better athlete! Close 3 Years Michelle Dosson “I have been working out at Fortitude for almost three years now and this gym and it’s beautiful members and coaches have become family. There is an incredible sense of community and support, with kickass coaches who are there for you every single day. I am proud to let everybody know that Fortitude saved my life. My health and strength is getting better every day, and I have never felt so good.” Close 1.5 Years Rebekah Mueth-Jones Rebekah is extremely passionate about fitness, which extends into her professional role with Airrosti and her consistency with her own training. In the gym, Rebekah’s compassion and empathy for others shines through. She’s one of the first to welcome new members, she checks in on those who have had setbacks with their attendance due to busy schedules, and she’s a vibrant cheerleader even during the hardest workouts. Close 2 Years Karissa Ryan Karissa joined the Next Level program in the Spring of 2017. She found the accountability she was needing and the camaraderie that would push to achieving some amazing milestones. Since joining, Karissa has gotten the following PRs: first bar and ring muscle up and 200# back squat!
